Spotted Tiger Beetle
17 Jun 2009
Ben Lee
Just share a photo taken recently in a nature park of a "Spotted Tiger Beetle" (Cicindela aurulenta). The non-spotted sp. of Tiger Beetle are the more common ones and usually, the bugs / macro photographers will find them. Pls see photo on the link: http://home.pacific.net.sg/~naturetrekkers/naturetrekker-wildlife1.html

Sorry for the lousy image quality, taken with iPhone :-(
This little snake was only about 2.5 inches long. Definitely not a worm, moved like a snake, and could move very quickly when it wanted to.
Seen in "Orchidville".
Giant Snakehead at Lower Peirce
13 Jun 2009
Ben Lee
Spent 45 mins in Lower Pierce looking for snake but end up with a rewarding and surprise sighting. A full grown 1-metre or 3-foot long "Giant Snakehead" (Channa micropeltes) or some call it "Toman" came out of the water surface for air and my cam as usual always with me, took a quick snap (2 secs speed) before the giant fish went deep down into the main reservoir. Saw this species in Central Catchment deeper stream previously but never have a chance to shoot due to poor water visibility but not this time when the giant came up for fresh air.

Saw this Swallow-tailed Moth (Lyssa zampa) today at Woodlands. Sorry for the poor quality. Was taken with my handphone camera and through a glass panel. This is the 2nd largest moth that can be found in Singapore.
