Golden Web Spiders at Mandai

Got this Nephila at Mandai. It's smaller than the typical Golden Web Spider. It's a female and the small male was nearby. First time seeing a black Nephila! Initial suspect was Nephila kuhlii, but the latter does not exist in Singapore. So this is a black morph Nephila pilipes.
Here's another Nephila. It is the typical Golden Web Spider Nephia pilipes.
Blue Malayan Coral Snake at Chestnut Ave
5 Jan 2009
Con Foley
While walking in the Central Cachment forest near Chestnut Ave yesterday, I came across a beautiful blue, black and red snake lying motionless across the path around Noon. It was so still, I almost thought it was dead, but the colors were too vibrant for a dead animal. By the time I put my pack down and got my camera out it was already moving off into the forest, but very slowly. All I got where a couple of lousy shots of the body and tail, but not the head. Really nice looking snake, but don't pick this one up, it's bite could be the last bite you ever get!
